Tilopa (988–1069) was an influential Indian Buddhist tantric mahasiddha . Born into a Brahmin family, he initially pursued a monastic life but later sought deeper tantric teachings. As a wandering yogi along the Ganges, Tilopa practiced secret tantra, even working as a servant to a courtesan in Bengal. He is said to have had a direct vision of Vajradhara, who transmitted the complete teachings of Mahamudra to him. Tilopa's teachings laid the foundation for the Kagyu lineage, continued by his foremost disciple, Naropa.
