Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines, or HIG, are essentially a blueprint for designing great apps across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Vision Pro, and the rest of the Apple ecosystem. In this video, I’ll show you how to use the Human Interface Guidelines as a practical reference for improving your app design, navigation, layout, controls, color, accessibility, and overall user experience. You don’t need to be a professional designer, and you definitely don’t need to memorize the entire HIG. We’ll walk through real examples from Apple’s design guidelines, including Maps, macOS app design, drag and drop, Dynamic Type and accessibility, widgets, and platform-specific best practices. This is especially useful if you’re a beginner iOS developer or you’ve used AI to build your app and the UI still needs some polish.
