The new MDR framework was scheduled to take effect from October 15, 2026, with a 0.4% MDR on specified UPI person-to-merchant transactions above ₹2,000. According to reports, merchant bodies, fintech companies and payment industry stakeholders have requested the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to defer the implementation until January 2027, citing the festive season and concerns over implementation. NPCI and the Department of Financial Services are discussing the proposal, but no final decision has been announced yet. #UPI #UPIMDR #UPICharges #UPINews #NPCI #UPIRules #DigitalPayments #UPIUpdate #UPIMDR2026 #January2027 #MerchantDiscountRate #BusinessNews #FinanceNews #IndiaNews #News18Odia #OdiaNews Welcome to News18 Odia, your go-to destination for the latest news and updates from across India and beyond.
