Identity crisis in the kingdom: standing outside the gate when the table is already set for you. Pastor Mike preaches through Psalm 139 at The Purpose Church in Kent, WA. There are all kinds of identity crises — socioeconomic, political, the racial tensions in this country — but Pastor Mike says there is nothing worse than an identity crisis in Christ. Not knowing who you are inside the power of the kingdom is what leaves you standing outside the gate instead of walking in, staring at provision that was already set before you and calling it "my job." It was never your job. The whole message runs through Psalm 139. God searched you. God saw you — and the word "saw" is doing real work here, because the enemy's favorite lie is that what God saw disqualified you. Pastor Mike walks it verse by verse: He knows your sitting down and your rising up. He's acquainted with all your ways. He has hedged you behind and before. There is nowhere you can flee from His presence — not into heaven, not into the bed you made in hell, not into the uttermost parts of the sea. And in Psalm 139:12, the darkness and the light are both alike to Him. You can't see. He can. Along the way: a Charles Barkley clip about a coach who threw a punch thinking the camera wasn't on him, a temptation Pastor Mike names as his own, five minutes watching his son Seth put on his own shoes, and a five-hour drive with "are we there yet?" on repeat. All of it landing on the same point — the moment you decide it's your job to make the way is the moment you start to get angry, because you cannot do it, and you were never asked to. IN THIS MESSAGE • Why an identity crisis in the kingdom costs you the blessing you're standing next to • Psalm 139:1-12, verse by verse — searched, known, hedged, held • "He searched you, saw you, and loved you anyways" — and why that isn't permission to stay • Hebrews 4:15-16 — why you can come boldly to the throne of grace • The desert that was supposed to be a short trip and became forty years • "Did God really say?" — the question the enemy asked Eve, and still asks you • What God actually said over you: well, provided for, healed, loved • Laying down your pride: it's His job to hedge, your job to follow SCRIPTURE REFERENCED Psalm 139:1-12 · Hebrews 4:15-16 · Genesis 3:1 · Numbers 13:30-33 · Deuteronomy 1:2 · Psalm 23:4 · Proverbs 22:6 · Isaiah 55:8-9 · Ephesians 1:4 · Matthew 10:30 · Luke 19:40 · Song of Solomon 2:1 · Revelation 22:16 · Revelation 1:8 CHAPTERS 0:00 "God's Given Me a Word" — A Simple Word on Identity 0:24 Identity Crisis in the Kingdom — Standing Outside Your Own Blessing 1:55 Psalm 139:1 — "O Lord, You Have Searched Me and Known Me" 2:36 The Charles Barkley Clip: "We Saw You, Player" 3:09 He Searched You, Saw You, and Loved You Anyway 3:53 Hebrews 4:15-16 — Come Boldly to the Throne of Grace 4:10 "My Temptation Is These Hands" — the Store in Idaho 5:01 Psalm 139:3 — Acquainted With All My Ways 6:13 Psalm 139:4-6 — Hedged Behind and Before 7:05 Seth and the Shoes: "Use My Wisdom" 8:12 Psalm 139:7-8 — Nowhere You Can Flee From His Presence 9:13 Don't Make Your Bed There — a Short Trip That Became 40 Years 9:55 Caleb and Joshua: "We Are Well Able" 10:33 Psalm 139:9-12 — Darkness and Light Are Both Alike to Him 11:15 "Stop Putting Your Limitations on Your God" 12:03 "Did God Really Say?" — The Enemy's Question in Eden 12:37 But It WAS God — What He Actually Said Over You 13:34 Alpha and Omega — "If We Don't Cry Out, the Rocks Will" 14:04 He Does Not Need You.
