The nearest star beyond our Sun is just over four light-years away. On a cosmic scale, that sounds close. For humanity, it may as well be another universe. Even our fastest spacecraft would take thousands of years to reach another star. And going faster introduces enormous problems: unimaginable energy requirements, deadly radiation, interstellar dust, human lifespans and the fundamental limits imposed by physics itself. In this documentary, we explore why interstellar travel is so difficult — and whether humanity will ever truly escape our Solar System. We’ll examine the technology that could one day take us to the stars, from nuclear propulsion and fusion engines to laser sails, generation ships and relativistic spacecraft. And then we reach the stranger possibilities: wormholes, warp drives and the question of whether the universe has placed an invisible barrier around every civilisation. The stars appear to be everywhere. But reaching them may be far harder than we ever imagined.
