This climb to the summit of Big Slide mountain is one of 46 peaks in the Adirondack mountains in New York that are 4000 feet above sea level. People who complete all 46 peaks are considered a “46er”. We decided to try to start this journey to become a 46er with our first hike….Big Slide. Big Slide mountain is 27th highest peak in the 46er challenge at 4280 feet. We completed our first challenge that was a 9.5 mile loop via the brothers trail and Phelps trail. The brothers trail was awesome and breathtaking views most of the way up. At the summit of Big Slide you can view the Adirondack mountains “Great Range” that includes Upper and Lower Wolf jaw, Gothics, Armstrong, Saddleback, Basin, Haystack, and Mount Marcy. The Phelps trail was pretty tough because we had to cross a brook several times and the brook was flowing pretty fast because of the rain. We completed the 1st of 46 in 7 hours and 49 minutes… not too bad for an 8 year old and a 12 year old! Enjoy the video
