What does carbon fiber actually do to 3D printing filaments? Is it all good... or are there some serious disadvantages too? In this video, I take a detailed look at the good and bad effects of carbon fiber (CF) in 3D printing filaments. Carbon fiber can significantly improve certain properties, but depending on the material and application, it can also introduce some important disadvantages. I explain the advantages and disadvantages of CF-filled filaments, then test five different materials: PLA, PETG, PCTG, ASA and PA6. After unboxing and preparing the filaments, I put them through a range of printing and mechanical tests, including layer adhesion, bending, impact, tensile and creep testing. So, which materials benefit the most from carbon fiber? And where can CF actually make things worse? Let's find out!
