Praful – The Art of Letting Go | 45-Minute Flute Journey Among Falling Leaves

In autumn, nature shows us how to let go - and as the trees drop their leaves, every year we get a new chance to practice it. Letting go of everything that does not serve us anymore. Negative, (self-)destructive thoughts and patterns. Nature is preparing for winter, slowly withdrawing energy to just focus on the most basic and essential. Preparing, so that in winter it can gather the strength within for the next cycle. If we learn to welcome and consciously live these life cycles - blossoming in spring, thriving in summer, letting go in fall and resting in winter, we will feel more aligned, grounded and held in our bodies and on planet Earth. In a way, every fall we get the chance to practice for death - and when death finally comes at the end of this amazing journey, it may just turn out to be the beginning of a new, different cycle. In the midst of the leaves falling and the red, yellow and brown colours exploding all around, I went to sit on a cliff above a small lake in an old quarry and set up for an improvised flute session. It was quite a walk from the car and I only had a small handcart, so I had to minimise my set to what I could bring: just a few flutes, FX, a looper, sampler and 2 small synths. I had just bought a new Roland S-1 Synth and fallen in love with its sound, and playing it for the first time I used a simple arpeggiated preset I liked a lot and took that as point of departure. From there on, it was all instrumental improvisation, inspired by the beautiful spot. While playing, this was instantly mixed onto a stereo track - listening in stereo with headphones, or on a good sound system, will give you the full experience.
