The Red Tent (1969) - Mikhail Kalatozov | Drama | Mosfilm 4K

"The Red Tent" (1969) is an epic historical drama by Mikhail Kalatozov, a co-production between the USSR, Italy, and the United Kingdom. The film has been restored in ultra-high 4K resolution by the Mosfilm Cinema Concern. Forty years after the disaster, an elderly General Umberto Nobile still cannot find peace. In his mind, he repeatedly gathers the participants of the tragic 1928 Arctic expedition to hold an invisible trial—with himself as the defendant. Back then, the Italian airship "Italia" crashed into the Arctic ice. Some of the crew survived and set up camp on a drifting ice floe, painting their tent red to attract attention from the air. Explorers and sailors from various nations—including the great Roald Amundsen and the Soviet icebreaker "Krasin"—set out to rescue them. Yet the fundamental questions regarding the general’s honor, duty, and human frailty remain open to this day... 🎬 Director: Mikhail Kalatozov ✍️ Screenwriters: Ennio De Concini, Robert Bolt, Mikhail Kalatozov, Yuri Nagibin 🎵 Composers: Alexander Zatsepin, Ennio Morricone 📷 Cinematographer: Leonid Kalashnikov 🎨 Production Designers: David Vinitsky, Mikhail Fishgoyt, Giancarlo Salimbeni 🎭 Cast: Yuri Solomin, Otar Koberidze, Boris Khmelnitsky, Nikolai Ivanov, Yuri Vizbor, Peter Finch, Sean Connery, Claudia Cardinale, Hardy Krüger, Eduard Martsevich, Grigory Gay, Nikita Mikhalkov, Luigi Vannucchi, Mario Adorf, Donatas Banionis, Massimo Girotti, Tengiz Archvadze, Valery Sirovsky, Yuri Nazarov, Alexander Yanvaryov, Vladimir Smirnov, Rein Aren, Oleg Mokshantsev, Irakli Khizanishvili 00:00:00 — Opening 00:03:15 — Nobile in his room 00:11:40 — The arrival of Amundsen 00:18:50 — Preparing for the airship flight 00:27:10 — The flight toward the North Pole 00:36:25 — Storm, icing, and the crash 00:46:00 — The first days on the ice floe 00:58:30 — The radio operator’s attempts to establish contact 01:09:15 — The decision to search for help 01:18:40 — SOS radio signal picked up by an amateur radio operator 01:26:50 — Organizing rescue expeditions 01:36:10 — Tragedy of the group traveling on foot 01:45:20 — Arrival of a Swedish pilot 01:57:05 — Plane crash 02:06:40 — Rescue mission by an icebreaker 02:18:15 — Rescuing those remaining at the camp 02:28:30 — Final dialogue Do you love Soviet cinema with heart and character?
