Summiting Lobuche East 6119m // Nepal

Now’s time for the main event, the main challenge of my time in the Himalaya: climbing Lobuche East standing at 6119m. ------------------------------------ It seems the weather is now in our favour and a brilliantly bright blue day accompanies us as we leave Gorekshep and make our way up to Lobuche High Camp. Here we spend some time prepping our gear and getting in some calories before trying to get some sleep - if excitement allows. Alarms at midnight means a full alpine start, and lots of hiking in the dark, but well worth the effort when experiencing a sunrise from around 6000m. We make the summit and revel in the achievement, before beginning an incredible descent back down to camp, and beyond to the small village of Dingboche. After recovering here for the night, we continue our journey, now descending back the way we’ve come. Passing through Debuche, Tengboche Monastery and Namche Bazaar before reaching Phakding where we started the trek two weeks earlier. After this we stepped back into the unknown, with the final afternoon walk into Lukla being really interesting and exciting. Here we watch some planes take off from the infamous Lukla airport, getting ourselves psyched up for one of the most exciting flights ever.
