Why Don't Humans Keep Hummingbirds as Pets?

Why can't you keep a hummingbird as a pet? It isn't just the size, and it isn't only the law. The real answer is hidden inside one number: a heart that can beat up to 1,200 times a minute. In this video, we uncover five reasons hummingbirds have never become household pets: 1. The engine: a heart and metabolism running at the edge of what biology allows 2. The hidden diet: why sugar water alone can't keep one alive 3. Built for open sky: a body made for hovering and for crossing the Gulf of Mexico 4. The nightly shutdown: how torpor slows their metabolism by up to 95% 5. The wall: the US law that protects every hummingbird species And at the end, a twist that changes the question itself: what a hummingbird really remembers about your garden.
