Chant Hare Krishna and be happy Chant Hare Krishna and be happy Chant Hare Krishna and be happy Transliteration and translation: Sri Damodar Ashtaka 1 namāmīśvaraṁ sat-chit-ānanda-rūpaṁ lasat-kuṇḍalaṁ gokule bhrājamānam yaśodā-bhiyolūkhalād dhāvamānaṁ parāmṛṣṭam atyantato drutya gopyā 2 rudantaṁ muhur netra-yugmam mṛjantam karāmbhoja-yugmena sātanka-netram muhuḥ śvāsa-kampa-trirekhāṅka-kaṇṭha- sthita-graiva-dāmodaraṁ bhakti-baddham 3 itīdṛk sva-līlābhir ānanda-kuṇḍe sva-ghoṣaṁ nimajjantam ākhyāpayantam tadīyeśita-jñeṣu bhaktair jitatvaṁ punaḥ prematas taṁ śatāvṛtti vande ​4 varaṁ deva mokṣaṁ na mokṣāvadhim vā na cānyad vṛṇe ‘haṁ vareśād apīha idaṁ te vapur nātha gopāla-bālaṁ sadā me manasy āvirāstāṁ kim anyaiḥ ​5 idaṁ te mukhāmbhojam atyanta-nīlair vṛtaṁ kuntalaih snigdha-raktaiś ca gopyā muhuś cumbitaṁ bimba-raktādhararaṁ me manasy āvirāstām alaṁ lakṣa-lābhaiḥ ​6 namo deva dāmodarānanta viṣṇo prasīda prabho duḥkha-jālābdhi-magnam kṛpā-dṛṣṭi-vṛṣṭyāti-dīnaṁ batānu gṛhīeṣa mām ajñānam edhy akṣi-dṛśyaḥ ​7 kuverātmajau baddha-mūrtiva ījadvat tvayā mocitau bhakti-bhājau kṛtau ca tathā prema-bhaktim svakaṁ me prayācchana na mokṣe graho me ‘sti dāmodareha ​8 namas te ‘stu dāmne sphurad-dīpti-dhāmne tvadīyodarāyātha viśvasya dhāmne namo rādhikāyai tvadīya-priyāyai namo ‘nanta-līlāya devāya tubhyam 1 I offer my respectful obeisances to the Supreme Lord, who is the embodiment of eternity, knowledge, and bliss. His earrings swing back and forth as He shines brilliantly in Gokula. Out of fear of Mother Yasoda, He runs away from the grinding mortar, but she catches Him by running very fast after Him. 2 Seeing His mother's stick, He weeps again and again, rubbing His two eyes with His two lotus hands. His eyes are filled with fear, and His breathing is rapid. Around His neck, marked with three lines like a conchshell, shake the pearl necklaces as He cries. To that Damodara, bound tightly by His devotee’s pure love, I offer my prostrated obeisances 3 By such pastimes as these, He floods the cowherd men and women of Gokula in pools of ecstasy, revealing to those who are devoted to His majestic opulence that He is conquered only by love. Again I offer my loving obeisances to Him hundreds and thousands of times. 4 O Lord, although You are able to grant any boon, I do not pray to You for liberation, nor for eternal life in Vaikuntha, nor for any other boon. O Lord, I simply wish that this form of Yours as Baby Gopala in Vrindavana may ever be manifest within my heart. What use do I have for any other boon besides this 5 O Lord, Your lotus face, encircled by locks of soft, black hair tinged with red, and kissed repeatedly by Mother Yasoda, is wonderfully beautiful. May this vision of Your lotus face be ever manifest in my heart. Thousands of other boons are of no use to me. 6 O Supreme God, O Damodara, O eternal Vishnu, O master, please be merciful to me. I am drowning in an ocean of sorrows and grief; please shower Your glance of mercy upon me, rescue this poor, foolish soul, and become visible to my eyes. 7 O Lord Damodara, just as You previously liberated the two sons of Kuvera [Manigriva and Nalakuvara], who were transformed into twin arjuna trees, and blessed them with pure devotion to You, please likewise bestow upon me Your pure devotional service. I have no desire for any form of liberation. 8 O Lord, I offer my respectful obeisances to the divine rope that binds Your belly, which is the abode of the entire universe and shines with brilliant splendor. I offer my respectful obeisances to Srimati Radhikā, Your most beloved consort, and I offer my repeated obeisances to You, the Supreme Lord, who performs unlimited pastimes.
