Meanwhile, a Qatari delegation led by Qatar’s Deputy National Security Adviser also visited Kabul for meetings with Afghan authorities. The visits come amid continuing Pakistan-Afghanistan tensions and the closure of major trade routes. When clashes escalated between Pakistan and Afghanistan last year, Qatar and Turkey were among the countries that initiated diplomatic and peace efforts. In its weekly briefing, Pakistan’s Foreign Office Spokesman said Islamabad wants the border with Afghanistan to reopen, but maintains that the Afghan Taliban must take action against militant groups operating from Afghan territory and address Pakistan’s security concerns. The spokesman also said friendly countries have attempted to facilitate peace between the two sides, but described the Afghan Taliban’s approach during talks as negative.
