Halo's Conservative Politics Created its Right-Wing Community

Master Chief is one of the most iconic console mascots from the 2000s. Halo 1 and Halo 2 revolutionized first person shooter campaigns and online multiplayer. The hype for Halo 3 in 2007 was unprecedented in the gaming world. These games were created by Bungie, who went on to see out their contract with Microsoft by making Halo ODST and Halo Reach before leaving the franchise in Microsoft's hand. Since 343 took over, the Halo communities reception to their games has been lukewarm to hostile. While Halo 4 and Infinite were generally well received, Halo 5, Campaign Evolved and even the Halo TV show have been widely hated. The Community around the Halo games is larger male, American and Conservative - which lines up with many of the demographics for Xbox Live and Xbox (which has always been more popular with Americans) during the early 2000s. They yearn to see their favorite franchise return to its former glory. A franchise that was developed by several prominent conservatives, with Marty O'Donnell now being endorsed by Donald Trump in his run for Congress. In this video I discuss how I grow up with the Halo franchise, and how since replaying all the games this year, have come to see how it developed such a loyal conservative following - which has also contributed to why the newer games are so hated.
