In October 2026, scientists officially named a brand-new tyrannosaur: Tromerosaurus solumons. Found in Alberta's Oldman Formation (~76 million years old), this predator hid in museum drawers for years — misidentified as Gorgosaurus — until new research proved it was something entirely new. In this video we trace the discovery of holotype UALVP 52981, the 2010 find by Stuart Plotkin, the reclassified Royal Tyrrell Museum specimens, the CT-scan technology that cracked the case, the Smaug-inspired name ("frightful lizard" + Latin "lonely mountain"), and what Tromerosaurus tells us about the lost world of giant predators.
