Man takes company truck, flees police, rams Trooper, gets spiked, & runs on foot #pursuit #chase

Report: On August 22, 2026, at approximately 11:42 PM, I, Trooper Damion Potts, was traveling westbound on Interstate 40 near mile marker 247 when I observed a white 2014 Ford F-350, registered to Sabine Constructors LLC, swerving within its lane and crossing both the center white line and the outside fog line. Based on these observations, I initiated a traffic stop by activating my emergency lights. The vehicle failed to yield and continued westbound while swerving within its lane. I then activated my emergency siren and utilized my spotlight in an attempt to gain the driver's attention. Despite these efforts, the vehicle continued traveling below the posted speed limit and failed to stop. I continued following the vehicle and near mile marker 241, positioned my patrol vehicle alongside it in an attempt to gain the driver's attention; however, the driver failed to acknowledge my presence. The vehicle continued westbound, accelerating and decelerating erratically while swerving across the roadway. Near mile marker 233, Trooper Hunter Hill joined the pursuit as the secondary unit. During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle drove onto the outside shoulder of the interstate in order to pass a tractor-trailer. Near mile marker 231, Trooper Hill maneuvered his patrol vehicle in front of the suspect vehicle in an attempt to reduce its speed. The suspect vehicle then took evasive measures and struck the rear driver's side of Trooper Hill's patrol vehicle, causing his vehicle to rotate in a counter clockwise motion. The collision resulted in disabling damage causing Trooper Hill to terminate his involvement. Following the collision, I attempted a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) by making contact with the left rear of the suspect's vehicle with the right front of my vehicle; however, the maneuver was unsuccessful. I then attempted a second TVI by making contact with the right rear of the suspect vehicle with the left front of my vehicle, which was also unsuccessful. Sergeant Spencer Morris instructed pursuing units to continue following the vehicle while Trooper Dillion Cook positioned himself ahead of the pursuit to deploy stop sticks. The pursuit continued westbound as the suspect vehicle repeatedly swerved and traveled in the center of the roadway lanes. Near mile marker 216, Trooper Cook successfully deployed stop sticks, which made positive contact with the passenger-side tires of the suspect vehicle. After the tires were deflated, the driver, later identified as Rickey Woods, opened the driver's door while the vehicle was still moving and fled southbound on foot causing the vehicle to stop in the median. I exited my patrol vehicle and pursued Mr. Woods on foot across the interstate. During the foot pursuit, Mr. Woods jumped over a fence, and Trooper Rafael Garcia deployed his department- issued TASER; however, the deployment was ineffective. I continued pursuing Mr. Woods on foot toward the Citgo gas station. Mr. Woods eventually stopped running, and Trooper Dallas Taylor and Trooper Cook were able to intercept his path of travel. Mr. Woods was then taken into custody without further incident. Mr. Woods was escorted back to my patrol vehicle and transported to Forrest City Medical Center for evaluation due to his behavior. While at Forrest City Medical Center, I attempted to identify Mr. Woods; however, he initially refused to provide his name. After further investigation, officers were able to positively identify Mr. Woods, and he subsequently confirmed his identity. After being medically cleared by hospital staff, Mr. Woods was transported to the St. Francis County Detention Center for booking awaiting his court date. It should be noted that Berkley Regional Insurance Company will be contacted to file a claim for damages that occurred to both ASP vehicles during the pursuit. Also, DPA Kelsey Hobbs has been made aware that restitution is also being sought.
