Jesus said “Abide in me” (John 15:4), but what was He truly asking of you? On the night before the cross, Jesus gave His frightened disciples one image to carry them through everything that was coming: “I am the vine, ye are the branches.” In this verse-by-verse Bible study of John 15, we look at what it really means to abide in Christ. It isn’t about trying harder or holding on tighter. It’s about remaining in Him, staying in His love, and letting His life flow through you. If you’ve felt far from God, exhausted from striving, or unsure how to stay close to Jesus in ordinary life, this teaching is for you. We look at the Greek word behind “abide” (menō), the true vine, the Father as the vinedresser, why God prunes the branches He loves, what “without me ye can do nothing” means, and how abiding leads to fruit, answered prayer, friendship with Jesus, and joy that no one can take from you. In this teaching: The night Jesus spoke of the vine (John 13–14) What “abide” truly means in the original Greek “I am the true vine” and Israel’s vine in the Old Testament The Father’s pruning: why it hurts and why it heals “Without me ye can do nothing” The branch that withers, and the difference between Judas and Peter When His words abide in you, and how that shapes your prayers The fruit of the Spirit and the fruit of an abiding life “Continue ye in my love” Friends of Jesus, chosen to bear fruit that remains What abiding looks like on an ordinary day The Holy Spirit, the Comforter who makes abiding possible “Lord, to whom shall we go?” Staying when you don’t understand A 7-day practice to live John 15 this week Scripture is quoted from the King James Version (KJV). 📖 Key verse: “Abide in me, and I in you.
