Day 60 2026 USA Bike Tour

60 days on the road and Oregon is still throwing surprises our way! Today’s 46-mile journey from Baker City to La Grande had a little bit of everything: incredible food, some unexpected furry friends, and a roadside emergency on the interstate. We kicked off a chilly, overcast 45° morning with a massive, delicious breakfast at the Oregon Trail Restaurant and Cafe before hitting historic Route 30. Our first mission? Stopping at the historic Haines Post Office to drop off some mail. But the real highlights of Haines were the "guard animals." Instead of the usual angry farm dogs, we got chased by the sweetest kitty cat who just wanted chin scratches, followed by a hilariously chubby little hound dog who gave up on chasing Ken the second he realized he had to run uphill! Things took a stressful turn when Route 30 merged directly onto Interstate 84. A piece of steel tire wire from a semi-truck found its way into Ken's tire. Stranded on the shoulder of a loud, busy interstate, it took us nearly an hour to swap in a new tube and get rolling again. Thankfully, we managed to outrun the gathering rain clouds and rolled into La Grande after about 5 total hours on the road. We celebrated a safe arrival with some phenomenal sandwiches and lattes at The Pressroom Coffeehouse before finally checking into our hotel. Despite the tire drama, it was an unforgettable day on the Oregon Trail!
