🇳🇴 A day in Oslo: Arriving by Cruise, Exploring on Foot, and Finding Viking History We arrived in Oslo the best way possible — by cruise ship, straight onto the harbour. No taxis, no trains, no airport queues. Just step off the boat and you’re already in the city. With only a few hours to explore, we set out to see as much as we could… and Oslo delivered. 🏙️ Oslo From the Water Walking straight off the ship into the harbour felt surreal. Swimming areas, saunas, kayakers, modern architecture — Oslo wakes up beautifully. Our first stop was the marble‑topped opera house, where you can climb the roof for panoramic views over the city. 🏖️ Oslo’s City Beach Yes, Oslo has a beach — complete with sand, swans, and crystal‑clear water. It’s one of those places you don’t expect to find in the middle of a capital city. ⚔️ A Taste of Viking History We went hunting for Viking history and found a spot that brought the era to life in a way we didn’t expect. Longboats, plants, stories, and a few surprises about Norwegian vs Danish Vikings. If you’re curious about Viking culture, this part of the video is for you. 👑 A Royal Surprise While walking through the city, we stumbled across something we didn’t plan — and it turned out to be one of the most memorable moments of the day. Let’s just say it involved the palace, a balcony, and a full military performance. 🗿 The Sculpture Park Oslo’s famous sculpture park was our final big stop — and it’s unlike anything we’ve ever seen. Hundreds of statues, a towering monolith, fountains held up by giants… it’s a place that needs to be seen rather than described. 🚶‍♂️ The Walk Back With time ticking down, we made our way back to the ship, spotting quirky neighbourhoods, fountains, robot lawnmowers, and quiet corners of the city. Oslo is full of unexpected details when you explore on foot. If you want to see how much you can fit in a day — and why Oslo instantly became one of our favourite Scandinavian stops — it’s all in the video. 🌍 Tags #JillAndEuan #SlowTravel #EarlyRetirementTravel #TravelCouple #EuropeTravel #Oslo #Norway #VikingHistory #SculpturePark #Over50sTravel #Seniornomads #LongTermTravel
