I saw a $500 dress and thought, I can make that!

I have been obsessed with the Selkie Puff Dress for YEARS. Unfortunately, I am considerably less obsessed with the idea of spending hundreds of dollars on one. (Which is hilarious considering a spent quite a bit on fabrics...) So naturally, I decided to make it myself. In this sewing vlog, I’m attempting to recreate the iconic Selkie Puff Dress using a pattern designed as a dupe — with one small problem: the largest size was about 3 inches too small for me. So before I could even start sewing, I had to figure out how to make the pattern actually fit my body. And because apparently that wasn’t enough of a challenge, I also ignored the pattern’s skirt construction entirely and went down a rabbit hole studying the real Selkie dresses to figure out how all those ridiculous, glorious layers actually work. Several metres of fabric, an alarming amount of organza, questionable decisions and many weeks later… I made my own ridiculously floofy princess dress. Was sewing it myself actually the sensible, budget-friendly alternative? Debatable. Was it worth it? Absolutely.
