🏛️ Rome was supposed to be a Republic. Instead, it became an Empire. But how did that happen? The story begins with Hannibal Barca, the Carthaginian general who crossed the Alps and brought Rome closer to destruction than almost any enemy before him. ⚔️ Rome survived. Then Rome destroyed Carthage. 🔥 But victory created a new problem. Rome became richer, more powerful, and more unequal. Political violence spread through the Republic as figures like Tiberius Gracchus, Gaius Gracchus, Marius, Sulla, Pompey, Crassus, and Julius Caesar transformed Roman politics forever. ⚔️ Caesar’s rise changed everything. His conquest of Gaul made him enormously powerful. His rivalry with Pompey pushed Rome toward civil war. Then came the Rubicon, Pharsalus, Caesar's dictatorship, and finally the conspiracy of Brutus and Cassius. On the Ides of March, Caesar was assassinated. But killing Caesar did not save the Republic. Instead, it unleashed another struggle for power involving Mark Antony, Octavian, Lepidus, and Cleopatra—ending with Octavian becoming Augustus and the Roman Republic effectively giving way to the Roman Empire. 👑 This is the story of how Hannibal’s war, the destruction of Carthage, political crisis, civil war, Julius Caesar, and the Ides of March ultimately transformed Rome forever. 🏛️ From Carthage to Caesar.
