A 1:27.301 qualifying lap at Sonoma Raceway. A time I honestly thought was out of reach—and the breakthrough I needed as we prepare for the SCCA National Championship Runoffs at Road America.
Coming into this weekend, I hadn’t felt like the car and I were really working together. Our last race at Laguna Seca showed some promise, but this was my first real on-track session at Sonoma in a long time. I didn’t know quite what to expect.
Then it clicked.
That lap was more than a number on the timing screen. It was a huge relief, a boost in confidence, and a personal milestone: achieving something I had already convinced myself was impossible.
With the pace there, our focus shifted to the bigger goal—finishing the weekend, securing our qualification for the SCCA Runoffs, and looking after the car. We still have a full inspection and preparation ahead of us before the trip to Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. The goal is to arrive at Road America with a car ready to go the distance.
This weekend gave me a lot more belief in what we can do.
Have you ever hit a lap time—or reached a goal—you thought was out of reach? Tell me about it in the comments.
