I turned a Coldcard Q hardware wallet into a pocket arcade. QUASAR is free, open-source custom firmware for the Coldcard Q with three games: PAC-MAN (rebuilt in neon, with a new NEON mode), TETRIS (modern rules) and QUASAR, a shoot-'em-up with five boss fights. This video explains what it is, how it's built, how it's signed, how to install it safely, and how to go back to the official firmware.

🕹 INSTALL IN 5 STEPS
1. Put the official Coldcard Q firmware on a microSD card first. Label it: official.
2. Download quasar-1.4.0-q1.dfu and check its SHA-256 (Mac/Linux: shasum -a 256 FILE · Windows: certutil -hashfile FILE SHA256).
3. Copy it to the top level of a microSD card and insert it.
4. On the Coldcard: Advanced/Tools → Upgrade Firmware → From MicroSD → pick the file → OK.
5. Wait out the ~25-second "unofficial firmware" warning, and play.
Going back: in QUASAR choose System → Install Firmware (or hold S while switching on), pick the official file, enter your MAIN PIN.
⚠️ STAY SAFE
• QUASAR has no wallet code: no seed words, no signing. It never reads the secure elements.
• Try it on a spare Coldcard if you can. If yours ever held real money, set a fresh PIN first.
• Never type your real wallet PIN into firmware you haven't checked yourself.
• When installing from QUASAR, only use your MAIN PIN. A trick PIN there makes the bootloader wipe the seed.
• QUASAR is signed with the public developer key (#0), so the Coldcard shows a warning at every start-up. That's expected, and it can't be skipped.
QUASAR is an independent fan project, not made or endorsed by Coinkite. Coldcard is a trademark of Coinkite Inc. PAC-MAN and TETRIS are trademarks of their respective owners.
All gameplay was recorded from the project's simulator, pixel for pixel. Music and sound effects are procedurally generated chiptune. Narration uses a synthetic voice.
