Igreja de São Bartolomeu / Saint Bartholomew Church - Coimbra

A IGREJA DE SÃO BARTOLOMEU localiza-se na Praça do Comércio, em Coimbra, um dos locais religiosos mais antigos da cidade. A sua edificação é muito antiga, sabendo-se que existia já em meados do século X, conforme testemunha um documento que informa que a igreja foi doada ao Mosteiro do Lorvão já em 957. O primitivo templo foi reedificado no século XII em estilo românico. O atual templo foi erguido em estilo barroco, no século XVIII. O interior é constituído por uma nave e uma capela-mor, onde se pode observar um retábulo de talha dourada e marmoreada, típico do século XVIII coimbrão e semelhante ao retábulo principal do Mosteiro de Santa Cruz. SAINT BARTHOLOMEW CHURCH is located in the Commerce Square, in Coimbra, one of the oldest religious places in the city. Its building is very old. We know that it already existed in the mid-tenth century, as shows a document stating that the church was donated to the Monastery of Lorvão, in 957. The original church was rebuilt in the 12th century in Romanesque style. The current temple was built in Baroque style in the 18th century. The interior consists of a nave and main chapel, where you can observe a typical altarpiece of carved gilded and marbled, which was typical in the 18th century in Coimbra, and similar to the main altar of the Monastery of Santa Cruz.
