Alright, third time is the charm, aye me mateys? This is my playthrough of the third and final Gothic game by Piranha Bytes(which in my opinion are the only ones that count). It is the sequel to a great gem, the classic Gothic 2, and I dare say the biggest game of all three. Like the original I played this game in 2006 or so, but bought Gothic Universe collection in 2009. This sequel and spiritual successors follow the same formula of the original. Kind of. Well, they changed a lot from the original formula. You are still thrown into a world that can make short work of you. You still need to take great care handling even the weakest enemies. Depending on difficulty setting. As you start to familiarise yourself with the world, you get stronger, you gain XP and level up. Suddenly those menacing enemies get easier to beat. Again, depending on difficulty level. In Gothic 3 you have left Khorinis to go to the mainland. Previous skills and strenghts are not nullified, but you have to get better. You start at level 100, but it sure feels like level 1. You are still a weak and insignificant fish in a very big and dangerous pond. And you have forgotten how to skin animals and mine ore, and other skills. The events concerning the Sleeper and evil dragons are behind you, and you are thrown into the middle of the ongoing war between Humans and Orcs. The Orcs are still winning, much thanks to the backstabbing Xardas who handed paladins inability to use magic on a platter, resulting in a near victory for the Orcs. King Rhobar saw it fitting to imprison himself and his castle behind a magical barrier, shielding him and his court from the Orcs final push. The irony is hopefully not lost on anyone regarding the events of Gothic 1, where you are imprisoned by the same king behind a barrier. But here you arrive to the mainland with your party to even the score, righting some wrongs. Or..possibly...you can side with the Orcs. For absolutely no reason what so ever. You are, from the second you are handed the controls, embroiled in a fight you did not start, with an enemy the previous games never shoved upon you until you were ready for them. Orcs. Orcs! Think about how the Gothic 1 and Gothic 2 introduced fighting and made you combat weaker animals or goblins. Orcs, nah, you had no chance going up against even one the first hour of playing. Here? In Gothic 3 Orcs are the first enemy you fight, amidst tutorial messages that pop up whenever they are most unwelcome. So yeah, there is that. Otherwise I find this game took too much negative heat. I like it. I do. I played this voluntarily, eagerly even, and not for the first time. The world, the music and some of the game mechanics I utterly enjoy. Yeah, it is a good game set in a very beautiful world, and I was always drawn to helping the underground rebellion. You start a brawl, planned or not, it is like igniting a rebellion in that particular town. Against evil Orcs, mind. And take note, they are evil, as in Beliar-accepting-human-sacrifice-evil. If you meet a nice Orc, they are an exception. Now, after that initial fight you are free to go and choose as you please. So...what will it be? It is up to you to choose. But choose you must. 15:47 Not prepared for the drum solo here...loopy Tvayvl reaction. 42:00 And here we go. How many saves and reloads to find this pure magic ore? 45:30 Sometimes you score two of them. I do not own, or claim to own, anything related to the creation of this game. I just like to play games, and take my sweet time doing it. My comments and opinions are mine, as well as the gameplay shown in this video.
