9 days. 5 Land Rover Defenders, 1 Mini Cooper. Half a million dollars on the line. It didn't go the way we planned. We flew to Spain to find six vintage classics for six clients back home — some as donors for full frame-off custom builds, some ready to drive, five Land Rover Defenders and one Mini Cooper. One had to be on a boat to Martha's Vineyard by May. Another was for a retired Secret Service agent. All six clients were waiting. What actually happened: a botched donor truck, a car we'd been chasing in Italy sold before we could get to it, chaos at a shop with cement mixers running while we tried to inspect vehicles, and one car we thought was gone forever showing up in the last place we looked.
