How did Melkor, one of the most powerful of the Ainur, become the first Dark Lord?
Long before Sauron served him, Melkor wanted the power to create life of his own. He helped shape the world, then tried to make it answer to him. When he could not possess its beauty, he turned to destruction, deception, and theft.
This illustrated history follows his rebellion in the Music, the founding of Utumno, his imprisonment and release, the division of the Noldor, and the theft that led Fëanor to name him Morgoth. The events come from Tolkien's published story; Melkor's precise appearance and the scenes shown are original visual interpretations.
Primary reading: J.R.R. Tolkien, The Silmarillion: Ainulindalë, Valaquenta, and Quenta Silmarillion chapters 1, 3, and 6-9.
Original fantasy illustrations and synthetic narration were created for this independent fan work. It is not an official Tolkien or Middle-earth production.
