Nike layoffs 2026: surviving April does not mean your job is safe. Nike's Pace restructuring targets fewer roles, with US$1 billion in additional expected charges and decisions on affected roles beginning in calendar 2027. (Nike Layoff)
CEO Elliott Hill is cutting layers. CFO Dave Denton is pursuing lower costs. The Grind Hotline examines Nike's October 1 announcement, fiscal 2027 earnings and the stakes for Beaverton and regional staff.
WE WARNED ABOUT THE SIGNALS IN MARCH
Our March 7 episode examined Nike restructuring charges, severance and margin pressure as warning signs that more cuts could follow. On April 23, Nike announced approximately 1,400 Global Operations job reductions, mostly in Technology. Now Pace builds on the earlier cost plan.
THE $1 BILLION AND THE 2031 TIMELINE
Nike expects approximately US$1 billion in additional pretax restructuring charges, primarily employee severance and other employee-related costs. This is separate from approximately $300 million in severance recognised in fiscal 2026.
About $300 million of the new charges is expected in fiscal 2027, with the balance through fiscal 2031. These are projected charges, not $1 billion already paid or a confirmed schedule of layoffs every year. Nike expects $2.5 billion in cumulative savings through fiscal 2031, before restructuring charges and reinvestment.
WHICH NIKE JOBS FACE PRESSURE?
Hill said, "We'll reduce layers" and "we will eliminate duplication." Our analysis: management layers, regional coordination and overlapping responsibilities deserve scrutiny. Nike has not disclosed a complete list of future affected roles or locations.
Nike plans three regions: Americas, Asia Pacific and Greater China (APGC), and Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). APGC leadership will be based in Singapore. Some roles supporting that region from Beaverton will move closer to those markets, with the new regional formation expected in fiscal 2028.
A new Bengaluru campus will support Nike, Jordan and Converse. This confirms a shift in where work happens, not exact replacement of U.S. jobs in India.
WHY THE FINANCIAL PRESSURE MATTERS
Fiscal Q1 2027 revenue fell 4% to $11.2 billion. Nike Brand Digital declined 13%; Converse fell 28%. Greater China revenue declined 26% on a currency-neutral basis. Nike forecasts a high-single-digit revenue decline for fiscal 2027.
Nike also paid $610 million in quarterly dividends. Denton said "the dividend remains a significant priority." Shareholder returns and workforce reductions can happen together. A profitable company can still eliminate your position.
EMPLOYEE SPEAKS: STILL EMPLOYED, STILL WAITING
The opening is a dramatised employee perspective inspired by public accounts, not a recording from a verified Nike employee. It captures the question behind the numbers: how do you plan the company's future when you cannot feel secure about your own?
We finish with practical moves: prepare for interviews, secure references and watch unfilled vacancies, reporting-line changes and work absorbed by smaller teams. These are signals to assess, not proof your name is on a layoff list.
