Flesh and Blood Has Not Revealed This to You | 21st Sunday Ordinary Time, Year A | Sunday Reflection

What does it mean to truly recognize Jesus as the Christ, the Son of the living God? Reflecting on Matthew 16:13–20, this homily explores Peter’s profession of faith: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus reminds Peter that this truth was not revealed by human reasoning or popular opinion, but by the heavenly Father. The reflection draws out three important lessons: • Faith begins with God’s revelation, not simply with popular opinion or human interpretation. • Christ entrusted His Church with a mission of teaching and guiding His people, calling the faithful to communion, unity and fidelity. • The Church belongs to Christ. Even when the failures and scandals of her members cause pain, they do not change who the Church belongs to or the promise Christ made to her.
