What's on the Pile - Aniara, the most depressing movie ever

On this episode, we’re be discussing the film Aniara, a Swedish sci-fi romp based on an epic poem from the 50s. Aniara refers to a colony ship, leaving earth and going to mars. Along the way, they get knocked off their course and they lose their fuel. The colony is told it will be two years before they can slingshot around a celestial body, which, of course, is bullshit. They’re on a one-way course to nowhere. Then, when the holodeck commits suicide, everything spirals into the darkest depths of despair. This one’s a downer, to say the least. On doesthedogdie.com, it warns, “There's so much suicide in this movie that even something which is not alive kills itself.” With Nathan Bezner, Andrew Jenner, Matt Wagner, and Hsien Lee We stream every Tuesday at 8pm eastern, come join us! It really got under my skin. I highly recommend it, it's one of the most interesting intellectual exercises I've enjoyed in film discussion.
