Former Senator and Chairperson of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, and senior leader of National Democratic Movement (NDM) Afrasiab Khattak analysed the resurgence of militancy in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and its strengthening in Balochistan. Target killing of NDM's political workers in North Waziristan prove that Pakistani Taliban and ISKP affiliated fighters are targeting education and health care workers again. Senator Khattak stated that targeted attacks prove GHQ has not succeeded in negotiating with Afghan Taliban to control militants. The continued violence in the region also indicates that Pakistan has agreed to be a pawn in the new Cold War, which is between the USA and China per the senator, and that the Zhob attack in July also reflect that CPEC is increasingly at risk.
