1483-1484: The marriage plans for cloistered Joanna are thwarted by the sudden death of her betrothed. Infanta Isabella finally reunites with her father. King John II of Portugal attacks the Braganza family. Despite her reticences, queen Isabella chooses to maintain the betrothal of her daughter to prince Alfonso. Infanta Isabella witnesses how Boabdil's son is taken hostage by her parents and later finds out she will be back to Portugal one day, much to her chagrin. Mother and daughter pray together for Ferrdinand's success in battle. King John II of Portugal is visited by navigator Christopher Columbus 1485: Queen Isabella faces a dangerous birth, with her daughter and the whole court praying for her birth.
