🌎 AndYet - Go Back To Your Country ✨ "I was just a kid with two skies." What happens when a child is told to go back to his country? Go Back To Your Country is a deeply personal song inspired by a real childhood experience of discrimination, identity, and the struggle to find a place to belong. Born in America and raised in South Korea, I grew up carrying two countries within me. But at Howon Elementary School, I experienced something no child should ever have to face. "Go back to your country." Those words, accompanied by a middle finger and insults, left a young boy questioning something he had never thought to question before. Where do I belong? For years, those memories followed me. But growing older taught me something I wish I could have told my younger self. I never needed anyone's permission to belong. Through emotional rap and melodic vocals, this song tells the journey from childhood confusion and painful memories to self-acceptance and finding strength in an identity shaped by two worlds. This song is for anyone who has ever felt like an outsider, been judged for where they came from, or struggled to find a place to call home. You don't have to choose between the worlds that made you who you are. You were never wrong for being different. And yet, we keep going. 🎧 If this song resonates with you, share your story in the comments. ❤️ Subscribe to AndYet for more original music inspired by real experiences. Two places in my story, One kid trying to understand. I was born in America, then Korea became home, A new school, new faces, trying not to feel alone. At Howon Elementary, I was still finding my place, Then my brother’s older friends stood there in my face. “Go back to your country,” I heard them say, A middle finger in the air, “Fuck you” thrown my way. I was only a kid; I had no words to reply, Just a hundred questions I kept locked inside. I didn’t know which way to turn, Or what I had to prove. I only wanted somewhere I could be myself and move. You said, “Go back to your country”— Where was I supposed to go? I was just a kid with two skies And nowhere safe to let it show. You said, “Go back to your country”— But I was trying to belong. Now I carry both worlds with me; I was never wrong. For years, those words could echo louder than my name, Make me question where I fit, make me feel like I should change. But a child should not have to choose which half to hide, Or prove they have a right to stand on either side. So if that younger me could hear me speaking now, I’d say, “You don’t have to answer them somehow. You don’t need their permission, you don’t need their sign— You were allowed to take up space the whole damn time.” I didn’t know it then, But I was more than what they knew. I had a place inside me They could never take away or choose. You said, “Go back to your country”— Where was I supposed to go? I was just a kid with two skies And nowhere safe to let it show. You said, “Go back to your country”— But I was trying to belong. Now I carry both worlds with me; I was never wrong. Hey, little me, you can breathe now. You don’t have to disappear. You were never too foreign, You were never less from here. You said, “Go back to your country”— Now I know where I can go: I can stand beneath both skies And still call this heart my home. You said, “Go back to your country”— I don’t have to prove I belong. I carry both worlds with me; I was never wrong. Two skies. One life. I belong to me. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🎤 ABOUT THE ARTIST AndYet — Every story has a song.
