On 1976, Cher introduced her best friend Diana Ross to receive the award from Billboard magazine who named Diana Ross the "Female Entertainer of the XX Century".
Note from the video creator :
This video isn't meant to pit Diana Ross against Madonna (also because they are two completely different artists, but their careers have crossed paths over the years, for various reasons). Its simple purpose is to highlight the quirks and behaviors of these megastars.
Please, take a look to :
• Madonna Appreciates Diana Ross Or She Is ...
You should know that :
Madonna said of her chilhood : "The Beatles were there but I was more eager about The Supremes. I was really into girl group.
Madonna, during the early stages of her career, openly acknowledged Motown's impact on her work, singling out Diana Ross as a " significant source of inspiration ".
...And then, Christopher in his book ( Madonna's brother) said "Diana Ross was one of the first famous people to giver her an helping hand" .
Their paths had crossed, and during a 1999 appearance on "TFI Friday" with host Chris Evans, Diana's Guinness accolade led to a lighthearted remark about Madonna.
Chris quipped, "I bet Madonna hates you, doesn't she?"
To which Diana, breaking into laughter, replied : "She might!"
She went on to acknowledge her personal acquaintance with Madonna, diplomatically avoiding
any direct rivalry.
Chris suggested that Madonna was a "flash in the pan" compared to Diana, but the legendary Motown icon responded graciously, saying:
" No, she's been around. She's got some legs, yeah? "
......and then :
Chris Evans says that Diana Ross is in the Book of World Records as "the most successful female singer of all time" and tells her, joking, that "Madonna hates her" because Diana Ross kept taking away Madonna the scepter in the Book of World Records ( in 1993, Diana Ross had earned the title of the "most successful female artist of all time' " in the Guinness Book of World Records ).
In 2003 , in the interview to Graham Norton ( video above ), Diana Ross said :
" Madonna was rude with my children when they asked for an autograph " !
In 2019, in a BBC interview ( always with Graham Norton), Madonna illustrates some photos taken many years earlier (in one of which is with Diana Ross and Nile Rogers) and Madonna deems these artist "amazing "
