I started my ride extra early this morning to beat the intense Malawi heat. The route took me mostly along the shores of Lake Malawi and through vast sugarcane farms, with the lake always visible on one side.
Along the way, a drunk man approached me asking for money. Nothing happened, but it was a reminder to stay alert on the road. For lunch, I had a local classic: ugali (maize porridge) with fish, simple and filling.
I pushed all the way to Nkhotakota by nightfall and found a hotel to stay. But finding dinner was a real challenge. There were no restaurants nearby, so I had to search through the small, unorganized market looking for food.
That's when a local man on a bicycle offered to help. He told me to follow him—and I did, riding alongside him on my own bike as he led me to a restaurant. It was my first time having someone guide me on bicycle, and it felt like a unique, spontaneous adventure.
The restaurant served chicken and rice, and it was absolutely delicious—the perfect end to a long riding day.
