On December 5th, 1933, after 13 years of hidden bars, secret passwords, and jazz played behind locked doors, Prohibition finally ended — and the music that had been living underground stepped out into the open for the first time. This set tells that night in six movements: from the last hours of hiding to the morning after. During Prohibition, speakeasies hid behind barbershops and bookstores, admitting only those who knew the password. Just blocks away, Harlem's "Swing Street" held more than 20 jazz clubs, where a 17-year-old Billie Holiday was discovered singing in February of that same year, and Duke Ellington reigned nightly at the Cotton Club. But when Prohibition ended, something unexpected happened: the legal, open nightlife that followed slowly pulled audiences away from the underground clubs that had built the sound in the first place. 2 hours of instrumental 1930s jazz, built for deep focus, studying, and work — following that same arc: secrecy, mounting anticipation, a celebratory peak, open release, a golden high point, and a bittersweet ending as one era quietly gives way to the next. 🎷 THE STORY, IN SIX MOVEMENTS I. The Last Password — one final night in hiding II. Whispers Behind the Door — word spreads that it's ending III. The Toast — the moment Prohibition is repealed IV. Open Doors — the music spills out into the open V. Harlem at Dawn — the golden age in full swing VI. Last Call, New Dawn — a bittersweet goodbye to the underground that built this sound 🐺 ABOUT BAD WOLF Each week, Bad Wolf brings a different side of jazz — and a different story from American history underneath it. This one's about the night the music finally came out of hiding, and what it cost the scene that made it. Good for: deep work sessions, studying, reading, writing, coding, or any stretch of time where you need something steady and instrumental in the background. New jazz style, new story, every week — subscribe so you don't miss the next one. #jazzmusic #focusmusic #studymusic #deepwork #instrumentaljazz #prohibitionjazz
