Admiralty Jurisdiction of the Federal High Court in Nigeria (1) The entire edifice of modern Nigerian admiralty law rests on the unshakable foundation of two constitutional and statutory pillars: s. 251(1)(g) CFRN 1999 and the detailed statutory framework of the Admiralty Jurisdiction Act (AJA) No. 30 of 1991 (Cap A5 LFN 2004)and interpreted through the prism of Madukolu v Nkemdilim and its progeny, is exclusive, expansive, procedurally sophisticated, and fiercely protective of national interest. As Nigeria pursues its blue-economy ambitions, the continued judicial fidelity to these principles will determine whether the country remains an attractive yet sovereign maritime jurisdiction in the comity of nations.
