The Trump regime has threatened Canadian politicians over alleged interference in the U.S. midterm elections on November 3. The U.S. Ambassador to Canada, Pete Hoekstra, has warned Canadian politicians about three issues that the United States considers interference in its elections. He has also threatened to accuse Canada of helping Republicans lose seats in the House of Representatives and the Senate. Canadian politicians have denied interfering in the elections, saying that their focus is on tariffs and Canada’s right to impose retaliatory tariffs on the United States. They say they are not commenting on internal U.S. political issues, such as health care, which are not Canada’s concern, but are addressing trade policies. Canada, Germany, and other countries have accused the Trump regime of interfering in their affairs—including by suggesting that Canada become the 51st state and, in Germany’s case, by involving itself in the election debate over the AfD.
