How Can I Know What is True About God? | Pastor Ryan McClelland | New Horizons Spokane

How do you know what's true when everyone seems to have a new idea about God? Continuing our Christ Above All series through Colossians, Pastor Ryan McClelland walks through Colossians 2:1–7, where Paul writes encouragement and instruction to a young church "so no one will deceive you with well-crafted arguments." Pastor Ryan unpacks popular sayings that sound biblical but aren't, why we're so drawn to new ideas and secret knowledge, and how Scripture tells us to test prophecy and spiritual claims. He shows how Paul's military language of "order" and "steadfastness" pictures a church standing firm against false teaching, and how believers are encouraged by being knit together in community and by knowing Christ, in whom lie all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. You don't overcome deception by knowing everything; you overcome it by knowing Christ. Just as you received Christ by faith, keep walking with him by faith. Let your roots grow down into him, be built up in him, grow strong in the truth, and overflow with thankfulness. Sermon preached October 11, 2026.
