Here’s a great Scottish tune that to my best knowledge, was originally written in D. Anyway, since learning it in E (too many years ago 😅) I can’t go back 🤣 00:00 Intro and warm ups 00:35 Learner version 01:58 Session version This is a great entry tune to learning how to play a somewhat flashy piece in 3rd position on your fiddle or violin. The trick, is all about practicing the shift, between G# and the B with your 2nd (middle) finger. The best part about trying your position shift with this particular tune, is that you can do the actual shift whilst playing the open E. I recommend following the warm ups, followed by integrating rhe shift carefully into the learner version, until it all starts to sound and feel steady. I also recommend oating attention to, and following the bow strokes here as well, it will make it easier in the long run! I threw in a completely unrehearsed session version at the end of the video, no performance polish was used here 🤣 Ps. If you have any more questions about the shifting of positions and how to best address this skill, please get in touch and we can book you in for a lesson, either in person or online 🎻👍🏼
