1685 - Cruel Lag and the Wigtown Martyrs, Dumfries & Galloway

The 1685 Covenanter martyrdom by drowning of 18 year old Margaret Wilson and Margaret McLachlan on the Cree Estuary sands at Wigtown and the part played by Sir Robert Grierson of Lag, one of the cruellest of the king's supporters.
