London walk: Butler's Wharf, Tower Bridge, South Bank, London Bridge - narrated

Join me on a grey day deep in October to walk the Thames Path east to west along the South Bank of the Thames from the old Victorian warehouse district of Butler’s Wharf and Shad Thames, past Tower Bridge and continuing along the Queen’s Walk taking in HMS Belfast and ending at Hay’s Galleria with a view towards London Bridge and the City of London. Walk duration: 25 minutes Autumn has arrived in London but that does nothing to deter the walking enthusiast! We start on the Thames Path heading towards St Saviour’s Dock footbridge to take a good look at New Concordia Wharf heading from there to the South Bank alongside Butler’s Wharf and Shad Thames. This area was a renowned warehouse complex during the Victorian era, with boats docked up and down the Thames bringing cargo from all over the world. During the 20th century the area fell into disuse and so became a thriving centre for the artistic community. Controversially Terence Conran spearheaded the area’s redevelopment into an upmarket complex of apartments, restaurants and moorings during the 1980s, leaving us with today’s eateries and homes costing upwards of £1 million. I take the opportunity to check out some of the restaurant food prices while I am there. We arrive at London Bridge and walk under it to join the Queen’s Walk towards London Bridge, with plentiful views to enjoy east and west, taking in Canary Wharf, the Tower of London and City skyline vistas. The walk west takes us past City Hall and HMS Belfast, finally arriving at Hay’s Galleria, the start-point to my previous walk from London Bridge to the Tower of London – link at the end of the video.
