122 Buses in Dewsbury and the rebuilding of the bus station

The original Dewsbury bus station opened in 1932 in Asman Square (now a shopping centre) and moved to the current, adjacent site on South Street in 1980 with the established stands, where buses pulled in and moved out and cover for passengers. In 1994 it was revamped to have 15 stands of the pull in and reverse away style, common today. It also had two original style stands for National Express services, coach excursions and the Free Town Bus service. It is now on its third iteration, to be completed in 2027. Currently there are eight new, but old style bus stands, presumably to be progressively removed as the work nears completion. Work is also being undertaken to rebuild Heckmondwike Hub (new in 2015) as a bus station with covered accommodation for passengers. This is to be followed by rebuilding Huddersfield and Wakefield bus stations.
