AI is already playing and testing real video games. From navigating Hogwarts Legacy to finding bugs in commercial games, AI testing agents are becoming surprisingly capable. So what happens to the people working in game QA? AI-powered game testing tools like Nunu.ai and modl.ai can explore game worlds, execute test cases, identify problems, and generate reports. Researchers behind TITAN have even demonstrated AI agents discovering previously unknown bugs. But replacing repetitive testing tasks isn't the same as replacing the people responsible for game quality. Drawing on more than 20 years of experience in game development, QA, and Production, I look at what these AI testing agents can actually do, where they still struggle, and how game testers can prepare for an industry that's already changing. We'll explore real demonstrations, traditional test automation, bug triage, risk assessment, and why skills like test planning, prioritization, and project management are becoming increasingly valuable. Whether you're a game tester, QA lead, aspiring producer, or someone trying to break into game development, understanding these changes could help you figure out your next move.
