After taking the two-hour train from Sydney Central to Katoomba, I decided to skip the expensive Hop-On-Hop-Off tourist buses and navigate the public transit system myself to save some cash. I made it to the iconic Three Sisters, but when I went to book the famous Scenic Steepest Railway, I found out it was completely shut down! Not wanting to waste money on the other rides, I took a local guide's advice and pivoted to a massive bush walk through the mountains to Katoomba Falls instead. I even spotted a wild Sulphur-crested Cockatoo along the way.
