Schala's Theme/Life ~ A Distant Promise - Chrono Trigger/Chrono Cross (solo piano arrangement)

OKAY the final installment to end the Mitsuda segment of my composer series, and we're coming full circle and taking it all back to his SNES/PS1 era!!! OH MY GOSH HAS THIS ONE HAS BEEN IN THE WORKS FOR SO SO LONG 😭 as my namesake I kept putting it off because I knew I wanted to redo it, and I knew had to do it right. Whether or not I succeeded in that is another story but at the very least I can say I feel better about it than the first recording I made in 2014, which was total low effort garbage like everything else I was putting up on this channel back then lol hence why i'm trying to redo it all 😭 First off, credit where credit is due, I based this arrangement off Mathew Valente's version from 2004 for the doomed Chrono Resurrection project--a planned 3D fan remake of the entirety of Chrono Trigger before Square issued a cease and desist. I had been following the project for a while back then and Mr. Valente's high quality remixes of several of the CT tracks blew my socks off--and I wasn't the only one, as Verdegrand's piano cover of Corridors of Time is based on the Zohar arrangement and integrates Valente's guitar ostinato from his version of Corridors, quite an impressive feat as Zohar's arrangement is already a handful (pun intended). I have never forgotten Valente's version of Schala and how he thoughtfully spliced in the very theme that plays the moment Serge and co. free her from the Time Devourer in Chrono Cross, an absolutely inspired choice that musically brings Schala's arc full circle (   • Chrono Resurrection - Schala / Sara's Theme  . So I knew for years that I wanted to base my new version of Schala on his remix, so this ended up being essentially two arrangements in one. I drew inspiration from not only Valente's version in overlapping the overarching statement from Life ~ A Distant Promise over Schala's Theme--I LOVE that he did that bit of musical foreshadowing--and Verdegrand's excellent version of Life as well (   • Life ~ A Distant Promise ~ (Chrono Cross) ...  . Then the repeat of Schala at the end where I kinda sorta wrote some improv thing of it to cap it all off because i had to do SOMETHING for the second time around Anyways I feel SO RELIEVED to have finally supplanted my trash 2014 version more than a decade later, who knows maybe in another decade I may redo the redo hahaha but for now i'm okay with this new version and hope you guys are too! ❤️❤️ Thank you all so much for listening and following along with my composer series!
