Focus Mk1 bonnet lock - how to open the bonnet when the key doesn't work

The early focus is different to Mk2 and later Fords, and other videos here were not helpful when my bonnet lock would not open. Here's how I managed to get it open. To clarify how I got the grille off, fingers through holes at the top, pull the top forwards until the mountings at the bottom broke.
