Fancy That - 100 Years - RSCDS Edinburgh Centenary Collection

“Fancy That – A Hundred Years” is a 32 bar Reel for three couples in a four-couple longwise set from a collection of Scottish country dances to celebrate the Centenary of the Edinburgh Branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society in 2024. The deviser, Theresa MacVarish Clark, is a member of our Demonstration Team, a teacher and our membership secretary. The dance celebrates the many years of enjoyment Theresa has had dancing in our Annual Shows which ran from 1954 to 2011. The original tune, Fancy That, was composed by Theresa’s husband Pete Clark. Pete first played for us in Edinburgh as part of our Annual Show “Dancing Forth” in the 1990s. The music was recorded by Pete Clark (fiddle) and Muriel Johnstone (piano) and is from the RSCDS Edinburgh Centenary recording. Special thanks to everyone who has assisted with this project. The dances have all been filmed in the magnificent Merchants Hall showcasing the elegant neo-classical architecture of Edinburgh’s New Town. The late Queen Elizabeth II was patron of both The Royal Company of Merchants of the City of Edinburgh and the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society and her portrait is seen in each video.
