Andrew Gurruwiwi Band, the masters of Yolŋu funk, are back with the first single release from their forthcoming album ‘Sing Your Own Song’ - YAA DJAMARRKULI (pronounced: Yah JAHM-arr-koo-lee) Go ŋanapu marryuna djinaŋu manikay’yu! Come one and all, be joyful and dance to the music! ‘Yaa Djamarrkuḻi’ is testament to the calibre and musical excellence of the Andrew Gurruwiwi Band. In constant pursuit of freshness and fun, they enlisted the help of some friends: the song was co-produced with global instrumentalist Julian Bel-Bachir, with additional instrumentation from West African guitar icon Moussa Diakite, QVLN, and the horn section from Kiwi Dub-fusionists Subtribe. The result is a vibrant and joyous melding of contemporary Yolŋu rhythms with West African 'hi-life' guitars that is sure to get you moving.
