Directed by Giorgio Stegani (1928-2020), this low-budget Italian / French / Spanish co-production spy adventure stars Italian actor Nando Angelini, Argentine actor Alberto Dalbés (1922-1983), Spanish actor Alfredo Mayo (1911-1985), Italian actor Benito Stefanelli (1928-1999), Italian film and television actress Gaia Germani (1934-2019), French actress Janine Reynaud (1930-2018), Spanish actor Jesús Puente (1930-2000), Italian character actor Luciano Pigozzi (1927-2008), and Argentine actor Luis Dávila (1927-1998). With help from screenwriter Remigio Del Grosso (1912-1984), who wrote a number of highly entertaining films that included the gothic horror classic 'Mill of the Stone Women (1960), Stegani (known for his westerns) delivers an outlandish espionage film that contains a fair amount of action alongside exotic locations, scantily-clad females, lethal technological toys, and Ypotron, the first 'space weapon' that could destroy a large part of the world. Although it doesn't come close to the crackpot insanity of 'Operation Atlantis (1965), the film is a series of scenes without logic, in which only one thing is clear, an unscrupulous scientist (Alfredo Mayo) has been kidnapped and his daughter (Gaia Germani) must deliver a briefcase with secret documents in exchange for his release. After a seemingly endless series of twists and turns, Agent Lemmy Logan (Luis Dávila) is assigned to track down the missing scientist. Along the way, he acquires the help of a femme fatale (Euro-cult staple Janine Reynaud). Notable for its campy aesthetics, technical errors, and fun dialogue, this terrible but hopelessly entertaining espionage caper should be required viewing for B-grade film buffs.
A great score can make even a low budget affair like this seem much more expensive, and Nico Fidenco delivers a groovy (if at times repetitive) soundtrack that features a catchy opening and closing euro-pop theme tune performed by British beat band 'The Sorrows, formed in 1963 by Pip Whitcher. Reprised with different arrangements typical of the spy genre, the bulk of the instrumental tracks carry a groovy pulp flavour with sparse, dynamic arrangements with steel guitar accompanied by electric guitars, organ, and drums whilst other tracks contain a mood that's more nostalgic with themes for guitar with a sultry Spanish flair. Fidenco was one of those composers who made great contributions to the quirky, dramatic, and at times surreal world of film but never really received the recognition he so richly deserved. Here, the composer's obvious gift for producing melodic and catchy musical passages pays off well for the listener. The music was conducted by Willy Brezza (1935-1996), who sang for a time in Nora Orlandi's vocal group '2+2 before he dedicated himself to the composition of songs and soundtracks, collaborating with many record companies as an arranger and composing music for a handful of films, most of which were directed by Bruno Corbucci (1931-1996).
